At Phase 1 Electric, we have created a dedicated page of Frequently Asked Questions to help you learn and understand things about electrical emergencies and situations.

This page contains answers to the most frequently asked questions by our clients. However, these questions are only meant to serve as a guide for you when it comes to your electrical system and is not a ‘troubleshooting guide’ for electrical issues in your home.
What is the difference between a certified and licensed electrician?
The government issues a license to an electrician to show that they are authorized to work legally in a specific jurisdiction.

On the contrary, an organization issues a certificate to an electrician indicating they have completed particular educational requirements or showed a certain degree of knowledge.

This way, certifications and licenses are not the same things. With a few exceptions, electricians are required to acquire a license if they want to perform work in their jurisdiction lawfully. This also safeguards customers from the perils of improper electrical work. An electrician certification is entirely voluntary; however, it demonstrates the electrician's commitment to continued education and expertise.
Can An Electrician Do Electrical Inspections?
Yes, they have the required skills and expertise to conduct a thorough electrical inspection. At Phase 1 Electric, we have registered electricians who have served the industry for many years. We recommend periodic inspections and testing of your property to ensure everything is in order and functioning optimally.
Do You Give Free Estimates?
Yes, we offer free estimates. Call us today at 317-934-2621 to learn more about it.
How Much Does It Cost to Hire an Electrician?
It depends on the type of job or severity of the case. If it is as simple as changing a light bulb or conducting an inspection, you will be paying a lower fee to hire an electrician. Typically, electricians charge anywhere between $40 and $100 per hour. P1 Electric offers convenience to its customers by providing both hourly and fixed rates to make an informed decision.
How Can I Prevent Electrical Fires?
Electrical fires are one of the most common causes of house fires, and they can cause significant damage to your home or business. Electrical fires can potentially cause harm to your family members and put others in danger.
Make sure your electrical plugs, sockets, and cords are safe to use to avoid electrical fires. You should also operate electrical appliances appropriately and keep your home or office's electrical wiring in good working order.
Where Is the Safest Place to Use a Generator?
When you purchase a generator, it is important to place it in a safe area and not just anywhere you feel like it. Generator placement can have an impact on your safety, health, and happiness.

At P1 Electric, we recommend following the safety recommendations below.

Never use a generator inside or in a confined location. CO poisoning from generators operated indoors or in partially enclosed rooms is the most common cause of generator-related injuries and deaths.

Do not use a portable generator when it is raining. It’s better to purchase generator tents which are available online and in-home centers and hardware stores to keep them safe and shielded.

Before refueling, turn off a gas-powered generator. Spilled gasoline on hot engine parts may ignite. While refilling the tank, allowing the engine to cool decreases the chance of any hazards or damages.

Always keep an extra container of gasoline and keep it safely stored. You will want extra fuel on hand if you anticipate using the generator for an extended period.
Why Does My Light Bulb Burn Out Faster Than Expect?
When was the last time you decided to hire someone for a house electrical inspection? There are numerous reasons why your light bulb may burn out faster than you expected. Depending on the bulb type, the majority of them are expected to run a couple of thousands of hours at the least. And, if you are not getting these results, there could be some underlying electrical issues which you should resolve at the earliest.

Some of the reasons include:
  • The power supply voltage may be too high.
  • Bulbs may be loose or incorrectly attached.
  • The filament may be breaking due to excessive vibrations.
  • You may be using the incorrect light bulb.
  • Overheating could be caused by recessed lighting insulation.
  • A linked dimmer switch may not be compatible with the bulb.
  • The wiring in the fixture could be loose.

Please schedule an appointment with us today, so one of our registered electricians can help you determine the root cause.
Can I Install Electrical Wiring Myself?
Yes, you can install electrical wiring yourself – but, be informed that you are not qualified to sign it off. Electrical writing is easier said than done, and it is recommended to get in touch with one of the contractors to get major electrical work done. We have seen many instances where DIY leads to a disaster due to a lack of knowledge or expertise.

Legality-wise, DIY electrical jobs vary from one state to another. Always call your local permitting office for the most up-to-date information.

I used Phase 1 and please let me be honest.... I was very impressed with the attention too detail I received and last but not least the quality !!!!! Everything was perfect ! BETTER THAN I COULD HAVE IMAGINED DURING THIS RENOVATION , LET ME TELL YOU IT HAS BEEN SO STRESSFUL UNTIL TOM SHOWED UP !! I called 3 other companies and they all took me for a run-around , made things seem so much harder than it was , IM SO THANKFUL FOR TOM FOR MAKING THIS EASY. I WILL NEVER USE ANOTHER ELECTRICIAN EVER !! Thank you Tom you and your guys was a breath of fresh air !!! Looking forward to the next project !! I will definitely be using you for all my electrical needs !!

Phase 1 came out to remove some 80s light fixtures and replace with flush mount can lights. They were reasonably priced, punctual and got the job done in the time they said it would take! Highly recommend Phase 1 Electric for all your electrical needs!

John Doe

Had a mast damaged in a spring snow storm. Tom came over and assessed the damage the same day as the call. After a very competitive quote was given and the work was awarded, he pulled the necessary permit, schedule with Duke for the power shut off, and installed everything to code, all within a week of first contact. Great guy, great company and great service. I will be using Phase 1 Electric for all my necessary electrical needs in the foreseeable future.

Tom was very professional, timely, and did a great job. Would recommend and use again.

Tom and his electrician, Brandon, are incredibly professional and perform quality work even on smaller projects. I needed a larger breaker and outlet installed in my garage to power a table saw. Tom went the extra mile to research the proper electrical requirements to for my specific saw. Tom was also upfront with the pricing during his free estimating, and even came back out to my house after he did some research to make sure the job would be done right the first time. Brandon went above and beyond on the installation - both making sure everything was wired properly for how I needed it and making sure my saw worked properly before he left. It was great to work with a company who put customer service first. Highly, highly recommend!
